8 Botox Myths Debunked

Botox has become one of the most popular minimally invasive treatments in today’s society. It’s sometimes called a “lunch time procedure” due to how fast the treatment can be done. Botox appears to hold many misconceptions commonly due to social media and celebrities. To set the record straight I am going to address the 8 most common myths about botox. 1. Botox is dangerous Botox also known as botulinum toxin type A is a protein complex derived from the bacterium clostridium botulinum. Botox has been FDA approved, meaning the product has been regulated by Health Canada to be used both medically and cosmetically. Botox can be injected in many areas of the face, most commonly are around the eyes (crows feet), the forehead (expression line), or between the brows (11’s). 2. Once you have Botox you have to continue forever Many people are convinced that your skin will sag, wrinkle and look worse once you stop your treatments. When the effects of Botox wears off your skin will go back to how it was prior to botox injections and your face will continue to age with time. You’ll also find that it is also preventative and won’t need it as often as you initially did. People are commonly so happy with their results that they continue doing their treatment, and believe me it becomes addictive! 3. Botox is painful There may be slight discomfort but not anything unbearable. Botox needles are tiny, making it feel like almost nothing. Fillers could be a little more uncomfortable but majority of the products contain lidocaine which is a numbing agent to help minimize...

Cosmelan

Cosmelan Hyperpigmentation is a common, usually harmless condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin. Hyperpigmentation can affect the skin color of people of any race. Age or “liver” spots are a common form of hyperpigmentation. They occur due to sun damage, and are referred to by doctors as solar lentigines. These small, darkened patches are usually found on the hands and face or other areas frequently exposed to the sun. Melasma or chloasma spots are similar in appearance to age spots but are larger areas of darkened skin that appear most often as a result of hormonal changes. Pregnancy, for example, can trigger overproduction of melanin that causes the “mask of pregnancy” on the face and darkened skin on the abdomen and other areas. Women who take birth control pills may also develop hyperpigmentation because their bodies undergo similar kind of hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy. If one is really bothered by the pigment, the birth control pills should be stopped.                                                                                          Changes in skin color can result from outside causes. For example, skin diseases such as acne may leave dark spots after the condition clears. Other causes of dark spots are injuries to the skin,...
